The Goode News

Hello, and welcome to the new and more conversational JeffNet newsblurbs!

Well, of course, the big news at the end 2009 was the world premiere of Yes, Svetlana, There is a Grandfather Frost at the prestigious Studio Roanoke theatre for new play development, under the direction of artistic director Todd Wm Ristau. Playing to record crowds in a largely conservative community, this play promises to be a mainstream hit with audiences left, right and center for years to come.

Speaking of Roanoke, I will be returning to the Star City in July to lead master classes in Playwriting at Hollins University. If you're looking for an MFA in playwriting, this one is excellent, an intensive 6-week program with an emphasis on bringing in professionals to work with the students. I will be heading up classes on Writing Plays with Music and Adaptation. And, of course, making appearances at No Shame Roanoke

And speaking of No Shame! I will be in Nevada the first weekend in March to attend the newly-established No Shame Las Vegas which opens its doors on February 25th at the Insurgo Theater Movement.

Back home in Los Angeles, we are busily planning a remount of the honky tonk musical Savin' Up for Saturday Night. Recently nominated for two LA Weekly awards The show will be moving to a larger venue in 2010. Keep an eye on the official facebook page for details.

New writing for 2010?

I'm just finishing up my second book of stage combat plays for men and women, Your Swash is Unbuckled 2, featuring the return of Bridget of Bristol, the Bawdy Brigandess - Cap'n Jack's back in Mutiny on the Booty - and introducing the notorious Sir Gaylord of Flouncy ("who's quick with a dirk in a frock"). Ten new pieces of wordplay and swordplay. Perusal copies of the individual scripts are available now!

Also putting the finishing touches on my new gay marriage play Slippery Slopes, U.S.A. which you may know under its old title The Emancipation of Alabaster McGill. This is the play that's sure to offend everyone.

Later this year, Fursona Non Grata, the new furry play will be available just in time for Thanksgiving. And what's a calendar year without a new Christmas comedy to convince the "War on Christmas" crowd that I'm out to get Santa? Well, Christmas 2: the Sequel oughta do the trick.

And speaking of Xmas - (the holiday after Wmas and before Ymas) - If you haven't seen The Eight: Reindeer Monologues... Well, you're not really trying. The Eight celebrates seasons with new productions in:

And the even more offensive companion piece Seven Santas is also comin' to town this Yuletide. As long as your town is...
