Ilion, New York
opened May 27, 2015
(2 performances)

13 Remington Ave
Ilion, NY 13357

The Ilion Little Theatre Club (also known as 'ILTC' or 'The Stables') has entertained residents of the Mohawk Valley since 1924. The founders first met as a private club, rehearsing and performing in the attic of Lucille Worden's home, and then for a time at the Klippel house on Barringer Road in Ilion before establishing a permanent home in the still-used "Stables" behind Remington Arms.In addition to presenting multiple main productions each season, ILTC has undertaken various special events and benefit performances, including collaboration with the Herkimer County Historical Society, participation in Utica Monday Nite, and the presentation of numerous shows to benefit Herkimer County Habitat for Humanity. Currently, ILTC welcomes all adults interested in being a part of the organization - on or off stage! YOUNG ACTORS WORKSHOP The Ilion Little Theater Club will once again conduct a Young Actors Workshop (YAW) this spring. It will, as usual, give young people from 7 to 17 years of age a chance to learn about live theater by taking part in the production of a play. All participants will have the opportunity to learn and perform one or more acting roles. They will also have a chance to be involved in other aspects of producing a play, such as helping to create a set, making costumes and handling stage props. The workshop will be conducted under the direction of Dave Stritmater, with the assistance of one or more other members of ILTC. There is no charge for participating. Help from parent volunteers is greatly encouraged, but not required. For example, we ask every parent who can to provide a snack or a beverage for at least one meeting. Parents can also help with costumes and props, prompting, etc. REGULAR MEETING TIME: We will meet every Saturday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, beginning on March 21 and continuing through May. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled as needed, at times convenient to the participants. The workshop will conclude with a performance for family and friends; this is tentatively scheduled for the last week in May.

Fall Play Preview
Julia Haugan, Staff Writer

This year, the fall play class of twelve students is going to try their hand at performing at the Black Box on November 18 though the 20th. The play consist of eight classic Aesop fables that have been modernized and turned into typical high school scenarios. This year, the play is being directed by substitute drama teacher, Alie Walsh.

"I wanted to find something contemporary," Walsh said. "I love new work because I think the classics are fabulous, but it's really fun for our actors to try contemporary theater because that's really taking over right now."

Contemporary theater is a different style of acting because it's more realistic today, and more natural than other types of acting. For this class, there are ten actors and two tech students (the people who do backstage work on lights, sound, set, ect.). Everyone has a large part in the play, with every actor in at least two scenes.

The Black Box will be transformed into a thrust theatre, meaning that there will be an audience on three sides of the theatre

"A thrust theatre changes your acting," Walsh said. "It's different than acting on proscenium stage."

Fables that are being performed are "Birds, Bats and Beast", "The Two Crabs", "The Ant and the Chrysalis", "The Raven and the Swan", "Hercules and the Wagner", "The Laborer and the Snake", "The Lion and the Boar", and "The Boy and the Nettles."
