Zombie Bake Off

Blow our minds with the best Zombie plays ever written by undead Philadelphians!

In celebration of the New Play Initiative, Philadelphia Dramatists Center and Plays & Players are announcing a call for participants for The Zombie Bake-Off.

A companion to the NPI's Play Development Conference, and in honor of guest Paula Vogel, The Zombie Bake-Off is a playwriting event that celebrates the simple joy of writing a play and sharing it.

To celebrate, we want as many Philadelphia artists as possible to write a totally new play about Zombies over the course of three days.

This event promises to be almost as much fun as eating brains!!

These new plays must include the following three ingredients, provided by Daniel Student (Plays & Players), Seth Rozin (Producing Artistic Director, InterAct Theatre), and Bob Jude Ferrante (Managing Director, Sanctuary: Playwrights Theatre):

In no particular order:

  1. A zombie must, in some way, appear
  2. A chicken salad sandwich must be involved, preferably in a sexual, fetishistic or politically compromising situation. The sandwich can have capers on it, but they are optional.
  3. He/she was abused, as a child, by a trusted neighbor

You, brave writers, now have until 2:30 pm on Sunday to bake these ingredients into a totally new, totally amazing play of any length.

We will gather on Sunday, February 15th at Plays and Players Theater Third Floor Skinner Studio at 1714 Delancey Place. From 2:30 pm until 5:00 pm, a small group of six to eight talented professional actors will read as many of your flesh-eating new plays as possible.

The sharing of these new plays will be a celebration of the conference, a celebration of a room full of daring, new works, and a good excuse to connect a roomful of creative theater artists together.

In order to make the best use of our time, our resources and our experience, we ask that you:

  1. Bring enough copies of your play to be read by as many performers as you'll need.
  2. Bring your sense of humor.
  3. Bring your most daring play possible.

Additionally:

For inspiration, we encourage you to participate in Plays and Players Theater's Zombie Crawl. Friday, February 13th, 9pm -- 2am.
