Scandal has erupted at the North Pole. One of Santa's Eight (the elite corps of flying reindeer used to pull his sleigh each Christmas Eve) has accused him of decidedly un-Santa-like behaviour.

This clever, humorous, and confronting play involves a series of 8 witty monologues by each of Santa's reindeer; revealing the truth behind the allegations. However, do not expect happy little elves and cute smiling reindeer. Instead be prepared for a dark comedic tale of corruption, intimidation, and deviancy that implicates the smallest elf, right up to the jolly fat man himself!

You will never look at Santa the same way again!

In the Winter of 2009, the SATC changed the way audiences would look at Santa for years to come...

“The Eight: Reindeer Monologues”, was performed at the Seymour Centre and directed by Sam Neaves.

The impressive cast included: Dave Jones, Stephen Lloyd-Coombs, Luke Davis, Janina Hamerlock, Chris Jackson, Mitch Feltscheer, Scott Clare, and Morgan Powell. Vixen ... Morgan Powell

We know them as Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. They call themselves, "The Eight." These reindeer are responsible for the happiness of children all over the world. Eleven months out of the year they are merely ghosts, but come December no one can compete with their notoriety. They are a close family, and as we soon discover a VERY dysfunctional one. In Jeff Goode’s play, The Eight Reindeer Monologues, we get a hilarious behind the scenes look at Santa’s Elite Eight. When the reindeer speak we hear stories of jealousy, desire, greed, terror and even get the skinny on the "fatman" himself.
The Eight Reindeer Monologues is a departure from the syrupy sweet shows of Christmas that can sometimes be overwhelming. It’s a fun and candid show that you don’t want to miss!

Starring: Brad Allen, Shane Hamlin, Rhianna Mack, Jamie Marchi, Brad McEntire, Leslie Katz, Jeff Swearingen, and Rafael Villegas.

Not everything is merry at the North Pole. Rudolph is in a padded cell, Santa is on a bender, and the reindeer are talking to anyone who'll listen in Jeff Goode's hard-hitting, chocolaty-dark holiday confection. In this hysterically tart alternative to the usual sugar-coated holiday fare, scandal erupts at the North Pole when one of Santa's eight tiny reindeer accuses him of decidedly un-Christmas like behavior. As the media descends, the other members of the elite sleigh team share their articulate (and sometimes sordid) confessions. A tale of corruption and perversion emerges, which seems to implicate everyone from the littlest elf to Saint Nick himself.

The dark underbelly of the bowl full of jelly

Santa's a pervert, and then there are the deer: Vixen the vamp; Cupid, all gay camp; Dancer, the Jewish deer; Donner, Rudolph's guilt-ridden father… and the rest. They all have their say in The Reindeer Monologues, Readers Theatre Repertory's December 11-12 gift to Portland. The production is themed "A Dirty Little Secret Santa."

Guest director Jason England says there's enough holiday merriment onstage elsewhere. "This is the opposite of making yuletide bright," he says. "The reindeer accuse of being a 'grotesque libidinous troll of a man,' and this is their dark tell-all."

England hopes folks will send the kids to A Christmas Story, then treat themselves to "A Dirty Little Secret Santa." Careful, though: as one reviewer put it, "…you'll never again be so complacent about leaving the chimney unguarded at Christmas."

Over Our Head Players announces a bonus holiday production, The Eight: Reindeer Monologues, a dark, dark Christmas comedy by Jeff Goode.
Special 10-Year Anniversary Production

Scandal erupts at the North Pole when one of Santa's eight tiny reindeer makes a shocking accusation. As the media descend upon the event, the other reindeer share their perspectives. A horrific tale of corruption and perversion emerges, implicating everyone from the littlest elf to the tainted Saint himself. As each of the airborne eight shares their thoughts on the holidays, each other, and life with Santa, the truth behind the shocking allegations becomes clearer ...and murkier.

The Eight: Reindeer Monologues has meaning beyond the comedy and the shock. It also gives us a poignant glimpse of what many of us do at the holidays -- pretend we are happy and everything is fine. In many respects, these reindeer are quite true to human nature. OOHP first presented this show in 1999.

Director Rick Ditter was not part of that original OOHPs production, but he is aware of the reputation it has built since then. He was interested in producing it a second time precisely because of the jarring juxtaposition between holiday humor and adult situations. He says, “There are funny moments throughout the show due to the sheer absurdity of the situation. But it also delves into some very serious subject matter, which is made more accessible when presented by reindeer.” On a lighter note, Rick comments, “For hundreds of years, Santa has been the sole judge and jury of who has been naughty and who has been nice. But who is watching him?”

Directed by Rick Ditter.

The cast includes: Barbara Akey, Michael Becker, Colleen Burkhart, Nicholas Hoyt, Brianna Hubbard, Brad Kostreva, Daniel Myers and Joseph Piirto.

Production staff includes: Joseph Piirto, Diane Carlson, Melissa Fleischman, Ron Schulz, Jerry Horton, Tom Spraker and Janine Anderson.

Sunday at 8:00 p.m.

Hello all, This is an invite to a free performance of The Eight, the reindeer monologues and open mic night at Hoopers bar on the 13th of December.
We'll be starting around 8.00 and it shouldn't last more then two hours.

The Reindeer monologues is not appropriate for children as the content is more of an adult theme. Santa has been accused of molesting Vixen and the 8 reindeer have been called into give evidence. Each reindeer is a distinct personality, some of them more risque than others. All in all it's down to you to decide what really happened... Oh and why is Ruldolph in an insane asylum?

The open mic bit is what it says on the tin. Open for slots of 5-10 minutes between each monologue for music, comedy, poetry, dramatic reading or some other form of entertainment.

I wonder if anyone on here would like to contribute to that portion of the evening?

I'm also looking for two more roles to be filled, Vixen (who is the pivotal one in the whole production) and Cupid (the outrageous yet sharp minded one (also very gay)).

PM me if interesting in taking part, and look forward to seeing some of you there!

It was a resounding success too and we managed to raise 100 pounds for a charity supporting homeless people in London. Second time I've been involved with it, I was part of the production in Oita Japan several years ago. Can I say to you it is a fantastic script and well written, well done.
Kind regards,

Tom Collins
