Blue Mountains Yulefest 2012

Fridays & Saturdays - Yulefest dinner

Yulefest 2012
will be celebrated on
Friday and Saturday in July

with a dinner consisting of 4 sumptuous courses with all the trimmings.

Accompanying the dinner will be a performance of

'The 8'
Reindeer Monologues

Unlike the messages of our well-loved Christmas carols, it isn't all "Ho Ho Ho" and good times at the North Pole headquarters.

Are things really what they seem?

Why are those in Santa's inner circle — his reindeer — apparently ready to give the dirt on "jolly" old St. Nick?

'The 8; Reindeer Monologues' is a deliciously wicked and funny alternative to the traditional stories of the festive season. The North Pole becomes the hub of outrageous scandal when one of the elite eight reindeer accuses old Father Christmas of sexual harassment.

The international media feeding frenzy reaches fever-pitch when members of the sleigh team take the opportunity to share their perceptions and experiences.

It is a dreadful story of corruption and perversion which unfolds – and it appears that everyone is implicated; from the lowliest back-room elf to the blighted St. Nick himself.

With each deer's confession, the truth behind those allegations becomes both clearer…and murkier…

Hear all the gossip when the eight reindeer who pull Santa's sleigh Christmas after Christmas are called to bear witness to the innocence of the big red man himself.

Find out about the real Santa when you come along to the Blue Mountains Christmas in July dinner / show 'The 8; Reindeer Monologues'.

The not-for-children, un-holiday tradition returns for another round of naughty fun! Our favorite reindeer - back for their 9th year - still have plenty to say about the jolly old fat boy! So much, in fact, that this year's production will incorporate a roster of rotating performers so that you'll never see the same show twice! Accusations, rumors and all-out attacks are flying fast and furious around Santa's workshop again this holiday season. Go behind the tinsel and hear the truth about Santa straight from the reindeer who know him best. When a doe says "No", she means "No Way, Sucka!"

Don't expect happy little elves and cute smiling reindeer this Christmas. Instead, be prepared for a dark comedic tale of corruption, abuse, intimidation and deviancy that implicates the smallest elf, right up to the jolly fat man himself. Discover the real dirt on Santa's perversions, Vixen's allegations, Rudolph's mental health and why Dancer no longer dances. You will never look at Santa the same way again.

The Eight: Reindeer Monologues is a critically acclaimed work by Jeff Goode, a clever, humorous and confronting play involving a series of eight witty monologues by each of Santa's reindeer, after a scandal erupts at the North Pole

Groovy Boots Theatre is presenting The Eight: Reindeer Monologues at Lazy Susan's Comedy Den, upstairs @ the Brisbane Hotel, on November 28, December 2, 5, 6, 9, 12, 13 and 16. It's just all kinds of wrong - and definitely *NOT* for the kiddies.

directed by George W. Manus, Jr.

“As for the show we will produce for December, I had amassed a cast with the intention of producing The Eight Reindeer Monologues. I spoke to the cast after our first conversation and they wanted to proceed with a show that held at the very best-an anti-Christmas message. Each actor has taken on the arduous task of writing their own piece for the show from the prospective of elves in Santa's workshop-each that has been assigned to a particular reindeer and Santa. The subject matter is different from the Original show in that the characters delve deeper into corrupt corporations and the general state of the economy. As this is still a work in progress and we open on Thursday, I do not have a finished script as of yet, we are still tweaking changes and rewrites to ensure the best quality we may achieve in the small time that we have. We are licensed through ASCAP and are blending some non-royalty Christmas songs and parodies of others to make up for a time gap from shorter monologues and interactions, so we will offer more than a simple monologue show. As I has stated during our conversation, we'd like to call our show simply The Eight. As that is a partial title taking on a completely different tone and subject matter of Reindeer monologues. If the The Eight feels like a copied title (one we chose to avoid some confusion in PR for the show) and if this is a copyrighted title I'll be glad to add inches to the end of The Eight as this is another subject discussed in the dialogue of our new offering.” We have not received a copy of the “parody script” as we have requested and we have noted that the production has opened. We are including the theatre and producer’s contact information should you wish to contact them directly.

The Theatre at Marietta College opens its 2012-2013 studio series with an adult holiday double-bill of Thornton Wilder's "The Long Christmas Dinner" and Jeff Goode's "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues" is set to conclude the fall season. The two open at 8 p.m. Nov. 30 in Hermann, with additional performances at 2 and 8 p.m. on Dec. 1 and at 2 p.m. on Dec. 2.

"The Long Christmas Dinner" focuses on one dinner with one family over the course of 90 years through a lens of historical change. Directed by Stephen Brakey '13 (Shaker Heights, Ohio), this is one of two Wilder productions the Theatre Department will be performing.

"The Eight" is an adult-humored series of monologues from Santa's reindeer. Their anecdotes are not for kids, as they cover a slew of scandals that have happened in the North Pole workplace. Katy Fattaleh '13 (Dublin, Ohio) will direct this stimulating yet comedic social commentary piece. In "The Eight", the stables at the North Pole are abuzz with the recent Vixen scandal and the foggy details surrounding “the Rudolph incident.” More naughty than nice, these outrageous testimonials will "sleigh" you!

Reindeer Monologues raises $1,100 for Needs, Inc.

Thursday, December 13, 2012

In addition, two Irene Ryan scholarship nominees were selected during the run of the show.

"The Eight: Reindeer Monologues" had a great three-night run in the theater at Laramie County Community College. While the show itself was a fun way to spend an hour and a half or so, there was much more to it.

100 percent of the ticket sales will be donated to Needs, Inc., so the 300 people who saw the show are responsible for a $1,100 donation to the charitable organization.

In addition, two Irene Ryan Scholarship nominees were selected for their performances in the show. Caitlyn Fontes (who played Dancer) and Brendan Andersen (Comet) were chosen. They will audition for the scholarship at ACTF in Sacramento in February.

With each deer’s confession, the truth behind the shocking allegations becomes clearer and clearer…and murkier and murkier”.

Leigh Anne Chambers, Executive Director of the Bossier Arts Council, said the following about the production “I think during the Holiday’s adults need a little comic relief. It can all be so stressful so sometimes it’s nice to have a break from the cheer and laugh at the darker side of Christmas. I mean who hasn’t thought the fact that ‘Santa knows when you are sleeping and when you are awake’ is a little creepy”.
