Newport on the Levee - December 2004
HOLIDAY HOOPLA
SHADOWBOX CABARET
DECEMBER 1 - 27, 2004
'Tis the season for hilarity as the cast of Newport's Shadowbox Cabaret presents Holiday Hoopla IV, its fourth annual collection of comedy and music for everyone naughty and nice!
"Holiday Hoopla is by far our most popular show of the year", said Stacie Boord, the Cabaret's General Manager. "It's a production that has a little something for everyone, and reminds us to take a break and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the season."
The comedy stage will take audiences through the barrage of Yuletide necessities, spoofing everything from those adorable Christmas pageants to the unforgettable (and thankfully annual) holiday family traditions. In "A Kids-mas Carol," an elementary school class opens the curtain on an unforgettable retelling of Dickens' classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge. Adapted from popular humorist Dave Barry, "Nothing Says Festive" is the declaration of one man's decision to educate his brethren on the art of effective gift-wrapping. In the Jeff Goode monologue "Dasher," Santa's most devoted reindeer gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the Big Guy's corps of four-legged soldiers, and the evening wouldn't be complete without a visit to "Vinnie's Christmas Special," as the mobster-turned-TV host teaches the kids that good cheer and street smarts can go a long way.
Rounding out the evening, house band BillWho? will rock the sound stage with innovative arrangements of Holiday classics, and look for another visit from "The Santa Babies," the Shadowbox signature lounge quartet belting out your favorite Christmas tunes mixed with original comedy.
Holiday Hoopla will run daily December 1st through 27th. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and seniors for Sunday - Thursday 7PM performances. All tickets are $25 for Friday and Saturday 8PM performances.
