The reindeer that pull Santa's sleigh are kicking back, cracking jokes, flirting and spilling juicy gossip about their portly employer in Carrollwood Players' "The Eight: Reinder Monologues," a play that finishes its run this weekend at the Carrollwod Playhouse, 4333 Gunn Highway in Plantation Plaza.
In a story that ranges from funny to naughty to serious all in one evening, the reindeer offer candid opinions about their job, their co-workers and serious allegations about the man in charge. The levity is eventually replaced by a darker mood due to the subject matter, but the performance keeps the audience engaged with the variety of characters found at The Stagger Inn, a dive bar near the North Pole.
Secret lives, clashing personalities and conflicted loyalites are on display and the mature themes are best suited for an older audience. As a result, "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues" starts at 11 p.m. each performance evening. It's an entertaining late-night event that puts those famous holiday songs in an entirely different light.
The remaining dates are tonight and tomorrow night (Dec. 17 and 18). Tickets are $16 for adults and $14 for seniors, students and military personnel. For more information, call 813-265-4000 or visit www.carrollwoodplayers.com.
