(LIGHTS UP ON: JOANNE alone.)

(CLIVE dashes in.)

Clive: Hurry!

(Clive runs in a circle around the stage.)

Clive: Don’t just stand there!

(Joanne puts out her foot to trip him.)

(Clive circles her several more times before eventually tripping.)

Clive: Hey! What’d you do that for!?

Joanne: I quit.

Clive: You can’t quit! You’re fired!

Joanne: Good!

Clive: I like your spunk! You’re hired! We need more people like you around here.

Joanne: Oh yeah? Then I want a raise.

Clive: Me and my big mouth. All right, you’re fired!

Joanne: You can’t fire me, I quit!

Clive: Dammit!! This is because of Jerry, isn’t it?

Joanne: I can’t work with him anymore.

(Beat.)

Clive: Jerry’s a man?

Joanne: And a woman.

Clive: I knew there was something fishy about herrrrrrrr-im.

(JERRY enters.)

(Clive screams.)

(BLACKOUT)
