(lights up on Lisa, entering with a bowl of
fruit.)
(when she reaches center stage, a pedestal rises out of the floor for her
to set it on.)
(Lisa takes her place at the easel.)

(music: same as at beginning of Rafael's Still Life
scene)
(She takes a deep breath, then she begins to paint, the lights start to
swirl a bit.)
(suddenly Mephistopheles springs out of the bowl of fruit, he is dressed
like Rafael, she screams.)
(background voices: an echoey recording of Rafael's voice, continuing
under the scene: "You are very beautiful, but to pose for a master, you must be
perfect.")
MEPHISTOPHELES
You are very beautiful.
(He grabs her by the throat and pushes her to the
ground.)
MEPHISTOPHELES
But to pose for a master. You must be perfect.
(He holds her down with one hand. The other hand is covered with
red paint, or blood.)
LISA
(screams:) NO!
(blackout)
(Silence, no music or background voices.)
(Spot up on Lisa huddled behind her easel, weeping. There is no
evidence that the scene took place, and her hands are covered with
paint.)
(the light slowly fades.)
