(a blare of trumpets, lights up on a line of dancers, dressed as nuns.)
(sound of maracas as dancers stroll downstage, slight dance movements unbecoming to a nun.)
(another blare of trumpets, they tear off their habits, they are dressed as priests.)
(maracas and more rapid folk percussion. Priests dance, sharp simple movements, but rather wild for the clergy.)
(Then they tear off their priest costumes and launch into a DANCE SHOWSTOPPER - VERY FLAMBOYANT, VERY ATHLETIC. Bodies flying across the stage.)

(after a climax in the music, dancers vamp to the sound of the maracas as:)
(light comes up on Rafael going to bed. he crosses himself, says a very brief prayer, gets in bed. His bed is surrounded with finished paintings of nudes, which he has covered with strips of gauze.)
(lights up also on Lisa. She sees a blank canvas lying on the floor. She sits and holds it sadly.)
The Dream
(music and dancers execute a spectacular lead-in to the entrance of the star performer:)
(Rex slides into a spotlight like Tom Cruise in Risky Business. Gold lam‚ jacket or sequins or both. Dancers take part in the stage show and Rex, who behaves uncharacteristically throughout, should dance or do backflips or swing out over the audience on a rope, anything that will shatter the audience's preconception of his capacity for movement.)

REX
I got what you want, so don't put up a fuss.
I am the dinosaur. (Dinosaur!)
I am what I am, ain't nothin' to discuss.
I am the dinosaur. (Dinosaur!)
I'm bigger than Elvis, and I'm bigger than you.
I'm bigger than a schoolbus so don't tell me what to do.
I am the dinosaur. (You are the dinosaur.) Di. No. Saur.

You digga me up and you shellac my bones
You want to get to know me, well, you're not alone
I'm older than God, but I am younger than the phone.
Don't ever try to change me, don'tcha know I'm set in stone.
(You are the dinosaur!) I am the dinosaur! (Di. No. Saur)

Tengo hambre. Tengo sed.
Soy el dinosaurio. (Eres el dinosaurio.) Dino. Saurio.

Paleontologists make me sick
I am the dinosaur. (Dinosaur!)
They don't understand what makes me tick.
I am the dinosaur. (Dinosaur!)
If you studied my fossils for a hundred year
Would you have an explanation for my movie career?
I am the dinosaur. (You are the dinosaur) Di. No. Saur.

(brief instrumental section, Rex dances.)
(spoken over the music:)
Do you believe in Life... After Extinction?
(song concludes:)
Well, I been down extinction's road, and, Man, it wasn't bad.
I've been dead so long that I've become the latest fad.
I am the dinosaur. (You are the dinosaur)
I am the dinosaur. (You are the dinosaur)
I am the dinosaur. The dinosaur. Di. No. Saur.
(sound of the "fans going wild" begins to fade as:)
(crossfade to Rafael, who wakes with a start, gasping for breath. He gropes about wildly as he tries to get out of bed.)

RAFAEL
Paint. I need paint...
(As lights fade on Rafael, Lisa rises and crosses toward Rex. She reaches out to touch him. He tosses her his white sequined scarf and vanishes, leaving her alone onstage.)
