VIRGIN
"Why aren't I being tortured?" Is that any way to greet your mother? Like a stake through my heart. You'd like that, wouldn't you? Your mother chained to the rack, stretched out so bad none of her clothes fit. I don't have stretch marks enough thanks to you? Some son. Well, they tried--you think you're so funny--but I told him, I said, "Do your worst. After what I've been through--my husband dying, my son being such a disappointment, and not even a doctor--what are you gonna do to me? The way he tears out his mother's heart every time I come into this house and see how he has to live. He coulda been a dentist. He coulda been anything! (He coulda been a cabbage if he wanted to. If he applied himself.) You know who his father is? You know what his father makes in a week? Everything! He makes the entire universe, top to bottom, in six days and he still has the weekend. And his only begotten son? Animals, he plays with for a living." Animals was a Friday afternoon to your father. "You think you got the stones to torture me? What are you gonna do that's worse than every morning I wake up and look in the mirror and see the face of a woman whose son coulda been a doctor?!" That's what I told him.
