EXT. SAME - 20 MINUTES LATER The alleyway has been cordoned off, and DEPUTY BARNEY FIFE is attempting to disperse a crowd of curious onlookers. BARNEY All right, get back, get back! What's the matter, you never seen a crime scene before? Go on, scoot! You heard me! Show's over! Barney tries to shoo them away, but to no avail. Finally, ANDY TAYLOR arrives on the scene, the crowd parts to let him through. ANDY What's going on, Barn? BARNEY We've got a real situation on our hands, Andy. A genuine code 187. Full blown. ANDY Code 187? BARNEY That's a homicide. A real live homicide. Right here in Mayberry. ANDY Well, what happened? Barney fumbles for his note pad. BARNEY (reading) "0900 hours: Received a call at the courthouse about a disturbance involving two ladies screaming in an alley. 0905: Retrieved gun from filing cabinet, retrieved bullet from the hole in the back of the filing cabinet" --we gotta get that fixed, Andy-- "Loaded bullet into gun, and proceeded to the scene of the alleged disturbance..." While Barney continues flipping through his notes, Andy looks down and recognizes the dead body. ANDY Is that Otis Campbell?! BARNEY Not until 0915. Andy rolls the body over. ANDY What on Earth...? BARNEY Judging by the broken glass and the smell of sour mash, we might be looking at a moonshine-related incident. ANDY I'll say. Looks like somebody bashed him upside the head with a mason jar. Barney looks down at the body. He looks at his notes. He scribbles out what he had written. ANDY Why? What did you think happened? BARNEY (embarrassed) I don't like to comment on a police investigation in progress. Andy checks for a pulse. There is none. ANDY We always said hard liquor'd be the death of him. Just never thought it'd be premeditated. FADE OUT END TEASER
